KELLY CLARKSON

After Kelly Clarkson's much publicized feud with the label executives over her last album My December in 2007, the former American Idol winner is back with her fourth album, All I Ever Wanted. And though she probably would say otherwise, it seems she has conformed to the studio this time around with a collection of unsubtly radio-friendly tracks. Her first single “My Life Would Suck Without You”, with its opening guitar riff and the loud/soft chorus-verse structure which makes it sound like a poor man's version of “Since U Been Gone".
“I Do Not Hook Up” is about not hooking up with a friend (or former boyfriend) as he is drunk. It's a rather different angle as most of her peers portray themselves as far more promiscuous in their music. But I have a problem with this track... it's written by written Katy Perry. In fact, Perry wrote it for her own album three years ago but scrapped it last minute. Why would Clarkson have songs written for her by her main competitor?
The rest of All I Ever Wanted is littered with formulaic pop that you would expect from Clarkson. There are female empowerment songs like “Long Shot”, “Impossible” and “Ready”; broken relationship songs and of course, the obligatory pop ballads.
The sad thing is, All I Ever Wanted will be a much bigger hit than her last album, even though she clearly gave in to the record labels and went the safe route here.
